It is the mission of Dr. R. Allen Smudde, D.D.S. And Dr. Kelly Katheleen Smudde, D.D.S. to provide individualized comprehensive patient care which recognizes not only the oral health of the patient, but the patient's overall wellness. We strive to provide the highest quality dental care with a gentle and empathetic touch. Drs. Smudde offers extended office hours and are available for emergencies 24 hours a day.

Drs. Allen and Kelly Smudde both graduated from Northwestern University Dental School. They also both completed an additional voluntary year in a hospital setting to further their knowledge of medicine and dentistry. Both doctors come from families of doctors and health care providers.

Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly have a well-balanced patient load between the ages of 2 years to 70 years old. Their practice contains eight employees. Two front office staff, three chairside assistants and three dental hygienists. Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly bring to this practice their lifelong experience in the dental field. Dr. Allen began working as a laboratory technician at the age of nine and then throughout his high school and college summers for Geneva Dental of North America. Dr. Allen learned the art of removable prosthetic (denture) fabrication while working as a lab technician and has further refined his skills throughout his life.

Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly offer the community general family practice for all ages as well as cosmetic dentistry. Their practice offers the latest advances in aesthetic dentistry. For patients desiring whiter teeth, Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly offer a wide variety of procedures such as bleaching, bonding, veneers, porcelain crowns, inlays and "composite fillings".

Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly enjoy offering their patients posterior tooth colored restorations (invisible fillings). Most patients desire tooth colored restorations ``composites" because they are more aesthetically pleasing. Patients are also more conscious of the fact that every silver filling contains mercury, a hazardous element. Tooth-colored fillings contain no mercury. Another reason Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly recommend white fillings is because there is no metal in white fillings. Metals are conductors of hot and cold, and therefore may agitate the nerve of the tooth more than the more sedative white fillings. Composites also have superior mechanical retention. Unlike silver/ metal fillings composite materials lock onto all surfaces of the tooth and hold it together. Metal acts as a wedge and can sometimes cause fractures. If a tooth gets fractured, the patient could need a crown or extraction.

Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly have state of the art equipment in their office. One such example is his drill free air abrasion cavity system. Air abrasion offers Dr. Smudde's patients dental work without the use of needles. When used drill free air abrasion requires no anesthetic, thus no ``shot" is necessary! Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly offer their patients beautiful restorations combined with superior comfort and quality at an affordable price.

Products and techniques are ever changing in dentistry. Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly provide dentistry as the California law dictates. To keep up with the pace, the State of California requires dentist to attend continuing education classes. Such seminars provide hands on training with latest techniques and procedures available to the patients. Dr. Allen and Dr. Kelly keep current with the latest journals and publications.
